Split Lake Environmental Monitoring Program

North/South Consultants is developing a long-term, aquatic ecosystem monitoring program at Split Lake for the Tataskweyak Environmental Monitoring Agency of the Split Lake Cree First Nation. The monitoring program will focus on the effects of increased sediment transport and water level regulation on aquatic biota. Suspended sediment plume distribution, seasonal and long-term sedimentation rates, adult insect emergence, and fish diet abundance and distribution are among the indicators of change being examined. Skills and knowledge transfer are significant components of the project as is the development of laboratory and analytical capability at the TEMA facility. A community-based, long-term environmental monitoring capability is the goal of the program.
