Split Lake Transmission Line Project:
Site Selection and Environmental Assessment
To meet an increasing demand for electricity at Split Lake, Manitoba Hydro initiated a project to upgrade the existing 25 KV power supply to a 138 KV power supply. This project required the construction of a new transmission line, station site, and distribution lines to the community. North/South Consultants Inc., as part of an interdisciplinary team, participated in the site selection process and environmental assessment of the project.
North/South Consultants Inc. was responsible for all aspects of the project related to fisheries and aquatic concerns, including: stream crossing; vegetation control/herbicides; borrow pit excavation and operation; work force presence; potential for accidental spills of toxic substances; increased access; and drainage alterations resulting from permanent road construction.
