M/V Marathassa Fuel Oil Spill - Shoreline Assessment
|Client:||Coastal and Ocean Resources/District of West Vancouver|
|Location:||English Bay, Vancouver, BC|
Services Provided by NSC:
A fuel oil spill in English Bay, Vancouver, was reported on the evening of April 8, 2015, but it took a number of days to confirm that the vessel M/V Marathassa was the source of this oil. Transport Canada indicated that the ship appeared to suffer a malfunction when it leaked approximately 2,700 litres of Bunker C fuel into surrounding waters. Assessment and clean-up activities, led by the Unified Command team for Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, and First Nation shorelines, were concluded on April 23. Approximately one month after the shoreline response concluded, a follow-up survey of District of West Vancouver shorelines was conducted to assess current shoreline oiling conditions.
