Fisheries Act Reviews/Authorizations
The Fisheries Act
requires that projects avoid causing serious harm to fish unless authorized by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. This applies to all work conducted in or near waterbodies that support fish that are part of or support a fishery. NSC assists clients in complying with the Fisheries Act
and can lead the Request for Review and/or Application for Authorization processes. NSC's expertise makes it particularly qualified to assess a project's effects on the aquatic environment and to develop mitigation to avoid serious harm to fisheries. NSC will also quantify effects to fisheries and develop plans to offset impacts. As a final step in the authorization process, NSC can design and conduct Aquatic Effect Monitoring Plans (AEMPs) to measure a project's impact on the aquatic environment and to allow for adaptive management.
