Environmental Impact Assessment, Regulatory Approvals and Reviews »
Risk assessments provide a standardized, objective evaluation of how ecosystem components may be directly or indirectly impacted by external stressors. The type of risk assessment used varies according to the level of detail required, and can follow a qualitative, semi-quantitative, or a quantitative approach. NSC has used environmental, socioeconomic and governance indicators as measures of ecosystem function, with the type of indicator used dictated by the nature of the assessment required by the client. NSC follows the risk management approaches that are outlined in Canada's Fisheries Act
, and has been responsible for conducting the aquatic component of risk assessments for inclusion in Environmental Impact Statements in support of both industrial developments and projects in the public sector.
