Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Mapping

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) establish a framework for the collection, management, analysis, visualization, and communication of spatial data and their attributes. In short, GIS provides the tools to identify and locate problems, monitor environmental change over time, and forecast and predict future environmental change. Cartography, or the visual presentation of spatial data, is a key component of project reporting, whether to simply indicate sampling sites on a map or to illustrate the results of complex data analyses and modelling.

NSC has extensive experience providing GIS solutions ranging from wide distribution web format applications, maps and data, to hardcopy large print map formats, to complex spatial and relational database products for its clients. NSC provides advanced cartographic and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services for projects that span the full range of the company's expertise, and have generated products that depict results ranging from dissolved oxygen profiles within a waterbody and aquatic habitat conditions in rivers and lakes (water depth, water velocity, substrate and macrophyte distribution), to fish telemetry and fish capture rate comparison between waterbodies, and marine mammal distribution and abundance in an estuary.
