Fisheries Act Reviews/Authorizations
The
Fisheries Act requires that all work conducted in or near waterbodies that support fish must avoid mortality to fish and the harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat unless authorized by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. NSC assists clients in complying with the
Fisheries Act and can lead the Request for Review and/or Application for Authorization processes. NSC's expertise makes it particularly qualified to assess a project's effects on the aquatic environment and to develop mitigation measures to avoid harm to fish and fish habitat. NSC will also quantify effects to fish and fish habitat and develop offsetting plans. As a final step in the authorization process, NSC can design and implement Aquatic Effect Monitoring Plans (AEMPs) to measure a project's impact on the aquatic environment and to allow for adaptive management.
