Aquatic Habitat Compensation and Enhancement
The creation of offsetting habitat to replace essential habitat lost as a result of a development, as well as the enhancement of existing habitat to improve the production of key fish species is an essential part of mitigating the adverse effects of existing and future developments. The creation of offsetting habitat is also required under the fisheries protection provisions of the federal Fisheries Act
, where a net loss in habitat affecting the productive capacity of a fishery may occur. Working closely with professional engineers, NSC has participated in the development and implementation of habitat mitigation works for a wide range of projects, ranging from those affecting small streams to major rivers.
