Through its in-house Information Systems (IS) Group, NSC provides customized database management services for projects ranging in size from a single season of sampling on a small waterbody to major multi-year environmental assessments on regulated rivers. NSC’s IS group develops data entry frameworks that include customized forms and workflows, allowing crucial data collected in the field to be efficiently imported into databases. The list of deliverables for many of our smaller projects often includes the packaging of all collected data into an ArcGIS geodatabase; in this manner, NSC's clients can receive a single and integrated spatial and tabular dataset fully documented with standards based metadata with which to move forward.
For large and more complex environmental studies, NSC's IS group develops frameworks that handle robust and complex physical and biological data for both aquatic and terrestrial environments. Such structured frameworks simplify access to, and distribution of, data between various participants on a given project. Frameworks such as these are best handled in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Microsoft Access for medium sized data sets, and Microsoft SQL Server for large multiuser enterprise datasets. NSC’s IS group has experienced database designers and administrators to meet their client’s needs.
