Traditional Knowledge Studies

NSC has worked closely with First Nations, Metis and Inuit Elders and resource harvesters to document use of lands and resources and to preserve and protect Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge (ATK) and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ). NSC has collaborated with Aboriginal groups to synthesize ATK, trends and environmental observations, travel, land use and culturally important places in both arctic and boreal environments. NSC is experienced with a wide variety of research methods including training of community researchers, supporting harvest calendar studies, facilitating workshops and conducting interviews with knowledge holders in the field and in the office. Our full-service GIS department also supports documentation and analysis of land and resource use patterns over time.
